'ORACLE'S WHISPERS'
TEASER
OVER BLACK.FADE IN:
EXT. TEMPLE OF APOLLO (DELPHI - GREECE) - NIGHT (350 A.D. - FLASHBACK)
CAMERA FOLLOWS - A woman’s barefoot. Her long white dress crawls on the floor as she climbs the stairs.
CAMERA MOVES UP - Slowly. It reaches the woman’s arms. She carries a baby. The little creature is wrapped in what looks like a white blanket. The woman wears a white CHITON (kind of dress from ancient Greece).
HER FACE - She looks up avoiding glancing at the baby who sleeps quietly. Her long black hair blows in the wind.
The woman (seems in her 30’s) keeps climbing the stairs of an ancient temple, the Temple of Apollo in Delphi. A sad tear comes running down her face. She’s going to do what no mother should ever do.
The columns of the imposing temple stand high over the city. The temple is touched by the light of the moon.
The woman finally reaches the top. Stands before the imposing ornamented door. She glares down at her baby and her expression saddens even more. More tears leave her sad brown eyes.
ALTHEA
I’m so sorry I have to do this to thy my daughter. I wish I could keep you for eternity, but I can’t.
The woman sobs.
ALTHEA (CONT'D)
The punishment that awaits for me ---
Another tear.
ALTHEA (CONT'D)
You are just a baby and you don’t deserve to pay for mine and your father’s sin.
Althea sits on the step. She touches her daughter’s sleepy face.
ALTHEA (CONT'D)
We shouldn’t have broken the rules. A Seer and an Oracle should never be and we didn’t respect those rules.
Althea looks at the temple.
ALTHEA (CONT'D)
You will learn everything here. You’ll learn with the Oracle.
Althea kisses the baby’s forehead fondly.
ALTHEA (CONT'D)
Don’t ever forget, Aisling, the only person you can trust in is yourself. Always think in what’s best for you first. Don’t make my mistakes. See them an learn from them, but don’t make the same mistakes I and you father did.
Althea stands and approaches the door.
ALTHEA (CONT'D)
This is the end for a Seer.
Looks at her daughter.
ALTHEA (CONT'D)
It doesn’t have to be the end for her daughter. Keep a low profile. Pick your battles wisely. And always ---
(swallows)
--- Always, choose to be on your side.
Althea puts the baby on the floor and touches her face softly.
ALTHEA (CONT'D)
And most important.
(pauses)
Do never let anyone know your name. Forces of good and evil would want to destroy you.
Another tear runs down her face.
ALTHEA (CONT'D)
After all, you are the product of a forbidden love. You’ll have powers from both sides. You’ll be able to see what others cannot.
Lowers down and kisses her child’s forehead again.
ALTHEA (CONT'D)
I love you, my darling. I truly hope we never find each other in the plan behind the veil.
Althea gets up. She stands for seconds looking at the baby. Then, slowly, she starts walking away from there.
ON THE BABY - She sleeps calmly.
FLASHES TO:
INT. ORACLE’S CAVE - NIGHTON BLANK EYES - They remain like that for seconds and then they turn back to normal. The hazel eyes get wet.
Aisling, the Oracle, stands there thoughtful. She is holding her Crystal Ball. She looks at it. It’s filled with a white smoke inside which fades off slowly.
Aisling takes a deep breath.
AISLING
I’ve done what your asked, μαμά.
Which means mommy.
AISLING (CONT'D)
I’m always on my side.
CLOSE UP - Aisling’s face. She is serious.
CUT TO:
EXT. SAN FRANCISCO - NIGHTAerial footage of the town.
CUT TO:
EXT. P3 - NIGHTSome people are coming out of the bar. They are wearing Halloween costumes. It seems like the bar is almost closing.
CUT TO:
INT. P3 - DANCING FLOOR / STAIRCASE / BAR - NIGHTOnly a few people wearing their Halloween costumes are there. Junior and Melissa, wearing their Bamm Bamm and Pebbles costumes, respectively, are dancing a slow on the center of the dance floor. They laugh like drunks.
MELISSA
Oh, my God, I drunk so much.
JUNIOR
We were celebrating the babies.
MELISSA
Oh, that was our excuse?
Both of them laugh.
MELISSA (CONT'D)
I’ll be hung over tomorrow.
JUNIOR
I already am today.
Both laugh again. Then, they stop laughing and look into each other’s eyes.
MELISSA
Oh, my God! I never noticed that your eyes are like the ocean. I could drown in them.
Junior smiles. Their faces are really close to each other.
MELISSA (CONT'D)
I want to kiss you right now.
JUNIOR
Friends don’t kiss each other.
MELISSA
We won’t remember tomorrow.
JUNIOR
We are drunk.
MELISSA
Really drunk. That’s why we won’t remember.
JUNIOR
We won’t indeed.
Melissa smiles and approaches her lips to his and ---
Their lips touch each other. It lasts only one second. They look at each other.
MELISSA
Oh, my God!
JUNIOR
Do you want me to orbs us home?
Melissa nods yes. Then Junior grabs her hand and drags her out of there.
The last patrons leave the place.
OFF TO THE STAIRCASE - Melinda comes in. She is wearing normal clothes.
Haley, wearing a Red Flapper costume, approaches her.
HALEY
Hey, Mel? How’re the babies?
Melinda smiles.
MELINDA
They’re good. How was tonight?
HALEY
Halloween is finally over. I’ll come back tomorrow with the guys to clean.
MELINDA
Thank you, Haley. Where’s Jo?
Haley turns around and points to a corner. Melinda’s eyes wide open.
OFF TO A CORNER - Jo is sitting on a chair and has her legs over a table. She is wearing normal clothes, cream pants, blue top, and cream jacket. On the floor next to her are like a dozen beer bottles. She’s holding one herself and has a sip of it every now and then.
HALEY
She’s been like that all night. I tried to stop her, but she always managed to get her hands-on beers.
(looks at Melinda)
According to her, that’s the only alcohol that has an effect on her.
Melinda forces a smile.
MELINDA
Thank you, Haley. I’ll take care of her.
HALEY
Bye.
Haley walks the entrance stairs. Melinda watches her leaving. Then, she looks at Jo. Breaths in and walks towards her.
MELINDA
So, that’s your idea of the perfect Halloween!
Jo glances at Melinda. She seems drunk.
JO
I’m celebrating, Mel.
MELINDA
We need to talk, Jo.
JO
No, we don’t need to talk. I don’t want to talk.
Jo has a sip of her beer and as she does, she loses balances of the chair and falls down the floor scattering the bottles. Luckily none breaks. Jo tries to sit. Melinda helps her.
MELINDA
I never thought I could see you like this.
JO
You don’t know me too well.
MELINDA
Well, we’ll have twenty something years to get to know each other.
Jo smiles sarcastically. She sits on the floor looking up at Melinda.
JO
I want to be alone.
MELINDA
You have to explain to me what was that attitude of yours the night the babies were born.
Jo looks aside.
JO
It was nothing.
MELINDA
You kept repeating ‘please, before midnight’. What was that?
JO
Look, I just thought that if Prue’s baby wasn’t born on the day she was supposed to it would change something in the future. But hey ---
She throws her arms to the air.
JO (CONT'D)
--- Little Christina came just on the same day at the same hour she was supposed to. That girl couldn’t just wait five more weeks or five minutes before.
MELINDA
Maybe if you would had shared more ---
JO
There’s no point. I’m a screwed up. I shouldn’t have come here.
MELINDA
Don’t say that.
JO
It’s true. I won’t change anything. I don’t know how.
Jo’s eyes get wet, but she tries to disguise it.
MELINDA
You should go to sleep. Let me take you.
Melinda is about to approaches her, but Jo reaches out her hand.
JO
No. I want to stay here. I’ll sleep in the back.
Melinda nods.
MELINDA
Fine. Bianca leaves the hospital tomorrow. They will stop at the manor. You can join us.
Jo doesn’t look up at Melinda. She tries to drink from an empty bottle. Melinda turns to leave but then remembers something.
MELINDA (CONT'D)
Hey, what Jo stands for?
Jo looks up at her.
MELINDA (CONT'D)
Josephine? Joslyn? Jolene? Johanna?
Jo lowers her gaze. Melinda smiles. Somehow, she got an answer. Melinda turns to leave.
ON JO - She is serious.
CUT TO BLACK.
